Precise, gentle, versatile and efficient

The latest version of the PrecisionCut UD0 represents an efficient solution for straightening and cutting of thin and long wire sections made from various materials. With its rotary straightening process and two optional cutting systems, the UD0 ensures the utmost precision when processing wires with diameters from 1.5 mm to under 0.3 mm, and in lengths of up to two meters.
Rotary straightening the best solution
The main challenge when straightening very thin round wires or pipes is achieving uniform strength. This is the only way to ensure that the wire or pipe will behave predictably and consistently in the next processing step. Rotary straightening can reliably achieve this uniform residual stress distribution on the straightened wired section. In this process, the straightening tools rotate around the wire as it is fed continuously through the machine, processing it evenly along its entire surface. “Precise straightening is key to making sure that the often automated downstream processes run smoothly and efficiently,” explains Dr. Jörg Peter Renz, CEO of Jouhsen-bündgens Maschinenbau GmbH.
Always the right straightening tools
The UD0 from Jouhsen-bündgens is suitable for straightening and cutting wires made from various materials, including carbon steels, titanium alloys, stainless steels, nickel and cobalt-based alloys, bronzes, nickel silver, heating element alloys, nitinol and more. “It can even process base wires with metallic coatings like gold,” continues Renz. This is due to the machine’s ability to use different straightening tools depending on the sensitivity and required surface. They can be chosen to match requirements in terms of shape and material, and deliver outstanding surface qualities. “Straightening can also be performed together with liquids,” says Renz. Used to protect the sensitive surfaces of the wire, these liquids can be lubricants or alternatively alcohols if the wires must have no residues after processing. Another additional option is a rotary straightener with nozzles, which reduces the friction between the wire and the straightening tools to enable gentle processing of even the most delicate wires.
Rod collector
Another challenge that the PrecisionCut UD0 overcomes is the need to keep extremely thin and long wire sections absolutely straight. “The longer the wire, the lower its inherent stability,” explains Renz. The solution to this challenge is as simple as it is ingenious: a rod collector that is available for the UD0 in lengths of 1, 1.5 or 2 meters. It receives the straightened wires and transports them onward. Renz says: “This keeps even the thinnest long wires straight and stops them from bending.”
Two cutting systems
The latest generation of the UD0 is designed to straighten and cut wire in a single process. Jouhsen-bündgens offers various systems for precisely cutting the wire or pipe sections to match different requirements. While many applications call for a bush-to-bush cut due to the achievable cut quality, extremely thin wires are often better suited to a bush-to-blade cut instead. This ensures a smooth cut while maintaining good cut quality.
Enclosed machinery housing
The UD0 from Jouhsen-bündgens can be summed up in three words: safe, durable and quiet. This is due in no small part to the enclosed machinery housing. “This not only keeps the process safe, but also extends the machine’s service life,” explains Renz. The housing also keeps noise emissions to a minimum. These register at under 80 dB on the UD0, a relatively low noise level that complies with the latest regulations.
User friendly
Alongside its total output of up to 400 pcs/min and ability to straighten and cut up to 28 meters of wire per minute, the PrecisionCut UD0 is also extremely easy to operate. An improved actuating mechanism makes it easier to thread the wire, while a mechanical crank gear adjustment system allows for precise length settings. The zero-slippage carriage feed prevents surface damage and ensures a continuous feed of wire that enables a smooth cutting process.
The UD0 has been on the market for five years. With its variety of equipment and options, the latest generation of this machine is a highly versatile solution for any application that requires extra fine wires with good surface quality, along with precision and efficiency.
